Premier Poms Experience is a sports team like no other! This non-profit organization provides girls from second through twelfth grade a Dance Team opportunity that is true to its motto of “It’s not just poms…it’s the experience.”
Premier Poms was founded in 2009 by Susan Barsness, Michele Wuertz and Jen Gray Blackburn with the intention of providing area youth with a competitive dance program which focuses on growing girls strong. Years later, with the retirement of Jen and then Sue, Kim Kempinski came aboard to co-direct with Michele to keep the values going strong. Celebrating their 10th season this fall, they continue to make an impact in the lives of the young women involved. This program strives to bolster self esteem of the individual girl while promoting unity of her whole team. Known for examples of the finest in good sportsmanship, Premier teams use their own sport model called “C2”, which stands for Caring and Competitive to promote their positive environment.
A Barrington Area Character Counts award winning program which educates girls about the sport of poms and dance while incorporating life lessons. The program is well known in their community for giving back too. Premier teams work hard at practice to be competitive and they are devoted to care for each other, and their community. They participate in community service opportunities which they call “Heart Adventures”.
The girls and their families demonstrate their C2 spirit in action at the Heart Adventures throughout their season. Premier Poms has an unusual approach, especially for todays over the top extracurricular activities that require kids to sacrifice family and school time during their childhood. Not at Premier, we encourage a commitment which is reasonable and balanced between team dedication and family/school life.
